Melody can guide you through the whole process from start to finish. You can rest assured that your Melody Murdock custom garment will assure a great fit and choosing your own design will create an individual style.

The following is a detailed explanation of the custom sewing process and the range of fees for many of the most common types of custom sewing designs.
This is to be used as a reference only. The actual cost will be discussed and determined at an initial consultation.

1.   Time Frame –
Please be aware of the time frame ranges when planning your specialty project.

All time frames are the weeks to complete garment AFTER all fabric and materials are in hand.
·        Custom Dresses (depending upon complexity) – 4 weeks

·        Costumes (depending upon complexity) – 5-7 weeks

·        Bridal –  minimum 8 weeks

2.   Rush Order –
If you are pressed for time I will consider a rush order.

A Rush order requires a minimum 10 days advanced notice and includes an upfront Rush Order Fee of $100 in addition to contractual costs.

In the event of a rush order you will sacrifice quality and cost considered materials.

The availability and time for sourcing materials will be sacrificed thus all prices will be higher due to retail priced sourced materials. This also limits options the best material and notion option will be chosen for the design which may alter the original garment desired.

You are responsible for all cost increases which include but are not limited to transportation to acquire goods.

3.   Consultation –
A onetime $25 fee is charged for all consults web or face to face.
During the consultation all measurements and design expectations will be acquired and custom sewing contracts will be estimated.

A.  Face to Face consultation – I will make arrangements to meet at your convenience in a public location of choice within 10 miles* without charging an additional mileage fee. The onetime $25 fee is expected upfront and accepted in cash only.
*Additional mileage rate of $0.55 per mile over 10 miles of travel will be applied.

B.  Web consultation – I will adapt any web conversational format of your liking. Web consultations will not begin until the $25 fee is cleared via Pay Pal.  In a web consult you must take your measurements yourself due to location restraints therefore you are responsible for any measuring and fitting errors that occur.

4.   Deposit Payment –
Once you choose Melody for your custom sewing project a legally binding contract will be signed and a non refundable deposit of 50% of the estimated total will be paid and cleared prior to any further work being started.
A copy of all contracts and estimates will be sent out within 4 days to the stated email address on the contract.

5.   Sketch Design Fee –
This $20 fee is for the actual sketching of your custom design. All materials used in the sketches are free. Color palettes will accompany the sketch for approval.
Once approval on a Project has begun, you will have 48 hours before materials are sourced to make any changes to the design.
I will only redesign and sketch a maximum of 2 times. For every 3rd redesign and sketch that is demanded an additional $20 Sketch Design Fee will apply.

*All patterns and designs created by Melody Murdock are the sole rights of Melody Murdock. Patterns created that are intended for future resale, will go through a patent process and a contract deal to sell the pattern to the interested party for a set amount or royalty rights.

6.   Sourcing Fee –
The sourcing fee, $5 per hour, covers time spent researching, shopping and ordering all required materials and notions via wholesalers and fabric stores. Methods include: local travel*, phone, Internet or email.
*Additional mileage rate of $0.55 per mile over 10 miles of travel will be applied.
Places, dates, and time spent will be documented and provided to the client.

In lieu of this fee during the initial consultation you are welcome to elect source your own materials and purchase them yourself based on contractual quantities. You must also deliver or ship materials to Melody Sews. You will be notified if additional materials and/or notions are required and given the option to continue self sourcing. If you elect to not continue self sourcing the above fees will be applied for additional materials and/or notions.
7.   Material Costs –
EVERY MATERIAL AND NOTION USED IN THE CUSTOM GARMENT IS PAID FOR SOLELY BY THE CLIENT.

·        Material – The substance or substances out of which a thing is or can be made.
So material is fabric or fabrics used in the custom design.  Purchased by the yard, meter, square foot, or as a unit.

·        Notions –the collective term for a variety of small objects or accessories. Notions can include items that are sewn or otherwise attached to a finished article, such as thread, zippers, buttons, snaps, boning, and interfacing, but the term also includes small tools used in sewing, such as pins, marking pens, and seam rippers.  So notions are any item used for sewing other than the fabric and the machines. Purchased by the yard, meter, square foot, or as a unit.

Melody commonly has all required small tools for construction and the fee for use of these small tools is included in the labor fee. In the event that a specialty tool must be acquired you are responsible for the cost of the item.

EVERY MATERIAL AND NOTION USED IN THE CUSTOM GARMENT IS PAID FOR SOLELY BY THE CLIENT.
Material and Notion costs are not included in the labor fee or any other fee incurred.
Shipping costs are also covered solely by the client.

It is preferred that clients decide on Materials and Notions prior to purchase.  I will refrain from ordering materials until approval via desired method. This allows the client to direct the cost of custom piece.
Because Melody will source limited quantities you are responsible if approvals are delayed and a less favorable substitute material must be considered at a higher cost.

Client will receive copies of all invoices and receipts for Every Material and notion used in the custom garment to the stated email address on the contract.
